In this workshop we will go over the basics of how to prune an established fruit tree. We will cover how to keep a tree in a shape that is conducive to easy picking, discuss espalier pruning, how to spot disease, and the pruning method ‘spur pruning’.

This intensive, hands on workshop will take participants through the process of establishing a productive food garden including site selection, layout, soil and bed preparation, crop planning, planting, crop rotation, irrigation, required tools/equipment and maintenance. From backyards, front yards, to small balconies, we will send you home with a plan and the knowledge for success. It also includes an introduction to weeds and pests. Please bring a bagged lunch,  gardening gloves and lots of questions! Tea, coffee and water provided.

Father’s Day Woodworking/Vertical Gardening Workshop Sunday, June 16th, 1-3pm

Vertical Gardening

No more ties people! Instead, sign up with your dad and come down to KJM where Kenny (K) and Jordan (J) will help you build your very own wood framed succulent living wall.

This class will be a fun filled couple of hours for you to enjoy with your dad. Students will first build their frames from wood and wire, and then plant them up with succulent cuttings. The two of you will be sent home with one finished vertical planter to enjoy at home, along with care instructions of course!

There will be several choices of shape and size for the frame you make such as 10″ x 10″ or 12″ x 6″ depending on your preference.

Mushroom Cultivation – Saturday, Nov. 16th 10am-4pm

Join the Mushroom Man, Scott Henderson for a hands on one day workshop. This seminar will cover Shiitake logs inoculation, Oyster mushroom Straw bags preparation, Stropharia chip spawn creation and Oyster mushroom coffee ground inoculation.

Participants will get hands-on instruction and take home a two inoculated logs, a large straw bag oyster mushroom farm, inoculated woodchips to start a chip bed mushroom patch at home, and inoculated coffee grounds which can be used to grow out oyster mushrooms, or to inoculate a still larger quantity of coffee grounds.

Participants are requested to bring their own charged cordless drill, if they have one, a plastic tote bin for wood chip spawn and a small plastic container for coffee ground spawn. Please bring your lunch. Hot and cold beverages will be provided.

When you finish this class you will go home with a gorgeous, one of a kind wreath for your front door this holiday season, as well as the skills and confidence to make one every year. We will be using a variety of unique specialty greenery, cones, berries, ribbons, and the secret ingredient…. you guessed it, Christmas Spirit!!!
